More pics from my recent trip to South Africa. This bongo walked right across the driveway of our lodge. Both male and female bongos have horns. The western, or lowland bongo is classified as Near Threatened. The eastern, or mountain bongo is only found in the wild in Kenya. It is classified as Critically Endangered.

These hippos spend their days staying cool in the water. They often come out at dusk to graze on grass and other vegetation. They're not carnivores, but they are notoriously unpredictable and violent when threatened. Hippopotamus is derived from the Greek word meaning "river horse". Hippos are classified as Threatened due to habitat loss and other factors.

Mother Nature says "Hi". This is a ground burrow for muskrats and other burrowing animals.
